Traditional uses

Yerba mate was first cultivated and used by the Guaraní people of South America centuries before European arrival. Traditionally consumed for sustained energy and clarity through the day — it contains naturally occurring caffeine alongside theobromine and theophylline. The shared mate gourd remains a sign of friendship in Argentine, Uruguayan, and Paraguayan culture.

Suggested use

Drink chilled. Excellent as a coffee alternative through the afternoon, or anywhere a clean, balanced caffeinated drink would land well.

About the maker

Founded by Nicolas Beaupré and his partner Elodie, who fell in love with yerba mate while travelling through Peru and brought the practice home to Canada. Working in partnership with a fourth-generation farming family in Misiones, Argentina — yerba mate's heartland — Mateína makes organic, fair-trade yerba mate in zero-sugar drinks, loose leaf, and tea bags.
