About the stone
Shungite is a black, lustrous mineraloid composed of more than 98% carbon. Found primarily near the village of Shunga in Karelia, Russia — from which it takes its name. The stone has been the subject of scientific interest for its unusual molecular structure, including documented trace amounts of fullerenes. 'Elite' or Type I shungite is the highest-purity grade, with a lustrous silvery-black appearance distinct from the matte black of regular shungite.
In crystal tradition
In crystal tradition, shungite is associated with the root chakra and is long-valued as a grounding and protection stone. Often carried as a touchstone for grounding, kept on workspaces near electronic devices, or used in crystal grids for protective intention. Modern crystal practice sometimes references shungite in the context of EMF — though no scientific consensus supports specific health claims about electromagnetic protection.
Each piece is one of a kind. Natural variations in colour, shape, size, and pattern are part of what makes the stone what it is — the photograph shows a representative example, your piece will look slightly different.
