Traditional uses
Each of the three herbs has its own deep tradition. Opium lettuce (despite the name, contains no opiates) has been used in European herbal practice for centuries — traditionally valued for calming and gentle pain support. Mullein has long-standing use in respiratory herbalism, especially for cough and lung support. Lobelia is a powerful North American Indigenous herb traditionally used for respiratory support and gentle relaxation.
Suggested use
Take a small amount (one or two dropperfuls) as needed for tension, headache, or restlessness. Best taken with water or in tea.
About the maker
Gaia Hive is the plant medicine and herbalism practice of Julie Gaia in Markdale, Ontario — herbalist, plant spirit medicine carrier, and mother. Founded in 2017, it's a sanctuary for folk herbalism, plant dietas, and fire-side mentorship. Julie studied herbalism with Sage Maurer at the Gaia School in Vermont and with Pam Montgomery, and offers mentorships alongside her hand-crafted herbal products. She lives in a straw-bale off-grid home in a cedar forest, with her family.
Care & safety
Lobelia is a strong herb — start with a very small dose. Higher doses can cause nausea. Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Not recommended for children. Those on prescription pain medications, sedatives, or with respiratory conditions should consult a healthcare provider before use. Opium lettuce can cause drowsiness — do not drive after use.
