About the stone
Obsidian is volcanic glass — formed when lava cools so quickly that no crystals have time to develop. The result is a dense, glass-like stone with a distinct conchoidal (curved) fracture. Black is the most common colour, but obsidian also forms in mahogany, snowflake, golden sheen, and rainbow varieties depending on inclusions and cooling conditions. Golden sheen obsidian gets its metallic gold shimmer from microscopic alignments of gas bubbles or mineral inclusions trapped during the lava's rapid cooling — light reflecting off these aligned structures creates the sheen effect.
In crystal tradition
In crystal tradition, golden sheen obsidian combines the protective qualities of obsidian with associations of personal power and inner gold. The flash of gold within the dark glass is sometimes interpreted as the discovery of inner worth or hidden strength — the stone often kept as a touchstone for self-confidence work.
Each piece is one of a kind. Natural variations in colour, shape, size, and pattern are part of what makes the stone what it is — the photograph shows a representative example, your piece will look slightly different.
