Traditional uses

Butterfly pea flower has been used across Southeast Asia for centuries — as a vibrant herbal tea, as a natural blue food and beverage colouring, and as a textile dye. In Thai and Malaysian tradition, the flowers colour rice dishes and traditional sweets. Long-valued in Ayurvedic practice as well.

Suggested use

Brew 1 tsp per cup with hot water. Steep for 3-5 minutes — the water turns a brilliant blue. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice and watch it transform to royal purple. Drink hot or chill for iced tea. The flavour is mild and earthy — sweeten lightly to bring it forward.
