About the stone
Obsidian is volcanic glass — formed when lava cools so quickly that no crystals have time to develop. The result is a dense, glass-like stone with a distinct conchoidal (curved) fracture. Black is the most common colour, but obsidian also forms in mahogany, snowflake, golden sheen, and rainbow varieties depending on inclusions and cooling conditions.
In crystal tradition
In crystal tradition, obsidian is associated with the root chakra and is long-valued as a protection and grounding stone. The sharp edges of natural obsidian — used as cutting tools by ancient peoples across the Americas — give the stone its reputation for cutting through illusion. Often carried as a touchstone for facing difficult truths or supporting clear sight.
Care
Raw obsidian can have sharp edges from natural fracture — handle with care, especially around children and pets.
Each piece is one of a kind. Natural variations in colour, shape, size, and pattern are part of what makes the stone what it is — the photograph shows a representative example, your piece will look slightly different.
