Tradition

Copal (from the Bursera family) has been used by the Maya and Aztec peoples of Mesoamerica for thousands of years — the word copal comes from the Nahuatl copalli, meaning 'incense.' Still used today by Indigenous peoples in southern Mexico and Central America in sweat lodge ceremonies and traditional gatherings.

How to use

Place the incense stick in a heat-safe holder. Light the tip and let it catch flame for a few seconds. Gently blow out the flame so the stick smoulders and releases fragrant smoke.

Care & safety

Light incense in a well-ventilated space. Place in a heat-safe burner with sand or stone insulation to catch ash. Never leave burning incense unattended. Keep away from curtains, paper, pets, and children.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place. Keep sealed if possible to preserve the aromatic oils.
