Details

  • Origin: Peru
  • Certified organic

Ingredients

  • Organic chia seeds (Salvia hispanica)

Suggested use

Make chia pudding by soaking 3 tbsp in 1 cup of liquid for 20+ minutes. Sprinkle on smoothies, oatmeal, salads, baked goods. Use as an egg substitute in baking (1 tbsp chia + 3 tbsp water = 1 egg).

Traditional uses

Chia was a staple food of the Aztec and Maya peoples of Central America for over five thousand years — the word 'chia' comes from the Nahuatl word for strength. Aztec warriors and runners traditionally relied on chia seeds for endurance on long journeys. The seeds were one of the four main crops of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, alongside corn, beans, and amaranth.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place. Keep away from direct sunlight.
