About the stone

Thunder Bay amethyst is found along the north shore of Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada — one of the world's significant amethyst deposits. Canadian amethyst is recognizable by its characteristic red iron staining, often called 'red caps,' which gives the deep purple crystals an additional warm undertone distinct from Brazilian or Uruguayan amethyst.
